BONUS DAY #242

Snow blow the driveway or let it melt on it’s own?  “Less” is often “more”–except if “less” leads to re-freezing, in which case “more” would have been better.  I followed this logic and ended up doing “more” and came out ahead of the game.  Those of you in a warm climate won’t have to deal with any of this at all–(and probably think it is crazy).  Bottom line–“less isn’t always more….”

BONUS DAY #241

I was reminded today how important friends are in/to/for our lives.  A call from a friend with the conversation he had with someone else who didn’t know me very well makes me realize that friendship is an important investment in life.  The loyalty a true friend extends at a key into your life and for your good name is a joy of Biblical proportion.  (It is actually in the Bible)!

BONUS DAY #240

Getting used to using power equipment has taken me by surprised.  I probably bought too many items at the same time, because each of them start differently.  You put on the choke, but each of them using the throttle differently.  Interestingly, I have had to pull out the owner’s manual on a number of occasions over the last couple of weeks.  It suddenly occurred to me at a moment this morning:  I had spent more time in the owner’s manuals today than reading the Bible.  Talk about conviction!  Ouch!  I’m signing off to go read the Bible and spend some time with God…….

BONUS DAY #239

I got to spend some time with a hard working Pastor with a huge vision for God’s work.  It was an inspiration to be able to share a few ideas with this young man who is moving God’s message/mission forward.  He is NOT without challenges, but seems to have a real balance in how he processes the vision of ministry with the practical part of life.  The experience today reminded me that every time we drive by a Church or ministry we should breath a quick prayer for the leadership.

BONUS DAY #238

The conversation of “which car should we take”–was quickly validated when the winds whipped up, rain came down in buckets, and changed to snow…..during an eight hour stretch from Texas to Kansas.  It is starting into winter, and it is time to adjust our thinking to winter weather conditions.  Preparation is an interesting thing.  Normally we say “do what you can and leave the rest to God”….I think we should edit that thought:  “Leave it to God ALL THE WHILE doing what you can….”

BONUS DAY #237

Our weekend in Austin, Texas, continued with a visit to Waco where Magnolia Springs is the major attraction.  I have been there several times, but was with friends who were first timers.  Even though I can’t eat the baked goods, I did stand in line for the group who wanted to taste the world renowned cupcakes and cookies.  I don’t think I have ever waited an hour in a line for baked goods, but today was a first.  It was an hour, but I enjoyed conversation with family, friends, and fellow-waiters.  Make the most out of every moment seems to be the common theme this weekend!

BONUS DAY #236

I was delighted to meet up with our dear friends the Alldridge’s as well as our son and family in Austin, Texas to enjoy some meals, talk about ministries, and catch up with each other’s lives.  It is so important to celebrate each other and celebrate with each other.  The enjoyment of fellowship is a rich dynamic God gives us in our lives.  Don’t take a minute of it for granted.

BONUS DAY #235

Because of a 13 hour drive I wasn’t able to get in my full 10,000 steps.  (A goal I adhere to strictly).  There I was at 9:45 PM with 4,000 steps and a desire to keep with the goal, but the realization it wasn’t going to be  possible.  I had to surrender to acceptance.  “Surrender to acceptance” is more important than I realized–from time to time–it is necessary for us NOT to become legalistic in areas of our lives.  Goals can and do become legalisms, if we don’t “surrender to acceptance.”

BONUS DAY #234

Watching my 11 year old granddaughter walk in with her trumpet and fellow band members made we realize how essential Bonus Days are all the way around.  It is important to “be present” even though I (we all) might not have a single thing to do with/for we can do one thing–which is the most important thing–that is:  BE PRESENT.  Always be present.

BONUS DAY #233

Its Election Day–meaning–no more election spots for another few months!  Dirtier and meaner each election cycle….even the ones calling to be “civil” are the ones creating some of the nastiest.  (Of course they don’t claim to be the nastiest, they claim another group put it together without their knowledge–like a PAC or special interest organization).  I don’t claim to know the answer, because politics in general has become so corrupt in every way.  All we can do is examine our own hearts and lives to be kinder NOT nastier–and be fair and civil in all we do.
