BONUS DAY #42

I was reminded today that God is in control of everything.  Believing God is in control isn’t a cope-out, or weakness because the most courageous thing a person can do is to totally and completely believe God is in control–especially if/when the “even when” things happen:  “Even When” people get involved and mess up what God wanted.  “Even When” I get involved and mess up what God wanted.  “Even When” the EVEN WHEN’S occur–God is in control.  God is in control because I yield and surrender to His control.

Every day is a Bonus Day.

BONUS DAY #41

I heard some great new ideas from Pastors today.  It warmed my heart that Christian Leaders desire to connect people with God.  I know it would seem like that should be the “norm” but it isn’t any longer.  Later in the day I received a call from a dear cousin who was asking about something she heard a popular high profile Pastor say online during a sermon about disregarding the Old Testament.  As we talked about it, we agreed that we are living at the end of time.  We know there will be many false teachers at the end of time–and that is what we are hearing.  We have to have the Old Testament if we are going to believe in a New Testament.  Jesus said “I come to fulfill not destroy it.”  “Destroy” means “disregard.”  It is important for us to keep a place of honor in our hearts for every word of the Word of God.

BONUS DAY #40

Another road trip started today with a great insight on Marceil’s part.  She said that our traveling “is our vacation (second) home.”  I loved the idea because it keeps us moving, open, transitional, and enjoying every moment.  I always love a road trip–especially on Bonus Days.

BONUS DAY #39

Today at Cardiac Rehab we had an usual experience–the ambulance had to come a fetch the SPOUSE of a cardiac patient.  The poor lady had been coming along to show support for her husband and exercise along side him.  Today she walk a lap and sat down, then passed completely out.  Fortunately the rehab team were on it and got a heart beat back before carting her off to the hospital across the parking lot.  It is interesting that everyone there had their own story of “when it happened” to them.  I had a chance to pray with the the lady’s husband.  They are sweet people.  Another reminder to always be up to date with God and with each other.  Each moment together is precious.

Every day is a Bonus Day.

BONUS DAY #38

I had a different kind of very special spiritual moment today.  I was with someone who wouldn’t believe Jesus is the Son of God, or didn’t the last time we talked about it.  They were involved in a new endeavor and as we talked I desired to have a prayer together seeking God’s wisdom.  At just the exact moment I was going to have a prayer my phone rang out and it was a call I needed to take.  As I thought back over the moment I realized there are times (in God’s design) that you DON’T OFFER the prayer.  God has His time.  All things happen in His time….not our time.  God’s ways are mysterious–even when it comes to moments like this.

BONUS DAY #37

A common issue that cardiac patients rarely like to talk about is how “scary” our aches and pains become after a heart attack.  Any issue in the upper body makes one quite nervous.  I thought it was only me until I over heard someone talking to the folks who run the Cardiac Rehab Center about what they were experiencing.  It makes sense that the Cardiologist took a good look at your heart and everything is “good to go” so what the aches and pain are will end up being muscular.  Muscles sore from the new exercises you are doing during cardiac rehab, and/or muscles you need to tone up better.  We were walking in downtown Louisville, Kentucky this morning toward the Louisville Slugger Factory for a tour.  I was walking, moving my arms thinking about swinging a bat as a much younger man.  The factory tour had several bats that the Pros use you could grab and take a swing.  It was funny how I had aches and pains walking to the factory, but once there I was a kid again (with no aches and pains).  Ha!

BONUS DAY #36

I was sitting next to my grandson today thinking about the two Cub’s games his grandma and I had gone to this week at Wrigley Field in Chicago.  I was thinking about how much I would like to take him to a Cub’s game in Chicago, but the situation is very difficult between his parents and I couldn’t even bring it up.  Realistically, I know in my head that many Grandparents have similar (and even worse) situations, but as I was feeling bad about the situation, he pulled his ear bud out of his ear and jammed it into mine saying, “Here Grandpa, listen to this…it is really funny!”  As I put the ear bud into my ear and listened to the youTube video it hit me–“You need to be thankful for what you get, not feel sorry for what you don’t get…”  Simple stuff.  Important stuff.

BONUS DAY #35

“Do everything without complaining and arguing” the Apostle Paul tells the Philippians in his letter to them.  “So that you will be blameless and pure children of God in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation…”  I guess it doesn’t matter what generation you live, there is always enough perversity to go around!  The only way to combat any kind of cultural or generational difficulty is to NOT COMPLAIN OR ARGUE ABOUT IT.  Going through life without complaining?  Going through life without arguing?  Both require a major change up from how we would normally think.  Yet–God is showing us the better way–even–the BONUS WAY!

BONUS DAY #34

We were laying in bed in a Hampton Inn across the street from Loyola University in Chicago waiting to get ready for a Cub’s game our friends, the Alldridges, gave us for Christmas.  Scott called because he got notified the game had been postponed because of bad weather.  We quickly made plans to check out of the room before noon and headed home.  One thing Bonus Days have taught me–NOTHING is a mistake.  Everything happens for a reason.  Go with the flow.

Every day is a Bonus Day.

BONUS DAY #33

One of my most favorite things is sitting for 3 to 4 hours in a professional Baseball Park and watching a game.  It doesn’t really matter what team or what park.  What I do like are great seats.  The closer to home plate the better!  Sometimes they are pretty expensive, but other times (like tonight) they are $50 a piece.  We went to Cub’s Wrigley Field for a game on Bonus Day #34 provided as a Christmas gift from our friends, the Alldridges.  We ended up going to the game the night before.  Cold…bitterly cold for April, but who cares?  It is a Bonus Day and it is baseball at a professional park!

Every day is a Bonus Day.
