BONUS DAY #27
April 11, 2018Posted by on
Matthew 10 tells the story of Martha inviting and hosting Jesus and friends to the home she shared with her sister, Mary, and brother, Lazarus, in Bethany–just outside Jerusalem close to the Mount of Olives. Martha is busy preparing for the meal while her sister sits with Jesus engaging and connecting with Him. The more Martha worked the more upset she became with her sister–as in–very worked up. Martha became so worked up she asserted herself into the next room, confronting and making accusations. (Like many of us do when we are worked up about an issue–“our” issue). If Jesus would have been a “pleaser personality” he would have apologized to Martha and encouraged everyone to head into the kitchen and help her out. Instead, Jesus takes it head on. “Martha, you get distracted, and worked up about things that aren’t important. Further, Jesus says, Your sister, Mary, has chosen the right thing to do by making it her priority to drink in my presence, by listening to me, by waiting with me, by sitting and yielding to a moment with me.” The story in Matthew 10 gives us an important comparable–are we distracted or are we drinking in the presence of Jesus in our lives? Are we getting worked up about stuff or are we sitting in the presence of the Lord?
Every day is a Bonus Day.
