BONUS DAY #128

I was hungry, out of town, and needed to find something to eat that was in the range of my cardiac patient diet (and gallstone issues)–very low sodium, no sugar, and no fat.  Most of the time it is fruits, vegetables, and grilled organic chicken.  The only one of these available after Marceil and gotten her Chicken sandwich and vanilla shake was a plain baked potato at a Wendy’s.  I ordered it up and waited…..and waited….and waited….and waited longer.  Every few minutes the lady would come and say–“It will be another minute.”  I admit to having a little attitude with having to accommodate this strict of a diet, but as I was heading out to the car with my (patiently waiting wife), it hit me–would you rather be dead?  Waiting on a baked potato is something I should be thankful for, not having attitude about.

BONUS DAY #127

We headed out today for a Church in Indiana whose Pastor was on Sabbatical.  The Church was bestowed a grant for the Sabbatical and for training while he was gone.  We started tonight on the idea of “how to develop a culture for staff to stay longer.”  We had interesting discussions with the Leadership Team.  They are wanting their staff to stick it out and stay longer.  Even though the wording is mine–“stick it out and stay longer”–the idea could apply to just about any endeavor.  If we trained ourselves to “stick it out and stay longer” wouldn’t our lives be more deeply enriched?  Just a thought on a bonus day.

Every day is a Bonus Day.

BONUS DAY #126

Eighteen weeks of Bonus Days!  WOW!  Very appreciative to God for 18 weeks of extra days after the discovery in the Cath Lab that I was 100% blocked in my LAD (widow maker).  The heart attack that triggered my hospital stay shows no permanent damage to my heart that is functioning between 55% to 58%.  In the face of 18 weeks of bonus days, it is my heart/goal/feeling to narrow the scope of my life to put aside everything that does not focus completely on God AND advance the Gospel (not coast on the Gospel).  Amen.  May it be so…..

Every day is a Bonus Day.

Much Love,

BONUS DAY #125

A 20 minute wait in line at the local Credit Union (behind a line of 3 people) left us both in shocked surprise of how this CU so close to our home has degenerated over the last few weeks.  The experience reminds me how we need to “stay on our toes” and realize situations in life are always in a transition.  An organization can go from a positive experience for others to a negative experience very quickly.

BONUS DAY #124

President Trump had quite a meeting with the Russian President Putin!  President Trump said “would” and walked it back today to say he meant “wouldn’t” referring to it all as a “double negative.”  He didn’t apologize, just clarified.  There are strong opinions about it all.  It is too much drama.  What did he mean?  How do the Russians take it?   I don’t know, but I do know I have made all kinds of statements I needed to “walk back” over the years but never had a chance to do so.  When was the last time you had or wished you could “walk back” something you had said?  We all have–and do say things we need to take back.  LET’S CUT EACH OTHER MORE SLACK.

Every day is a Bonus Day.

BONUS DAY #123

On the day of the greatly promoted “Amazon Prime Deal Days” in here, comes the news their website couldn’t handle it and crashed–no worries, however–the owner of Amazon is announced as the richest man of modern times.  His financial worth–$150 Billion Dollars.  Deals….Dollars….YIKES.  Life is more than deals.  Life is more than dollars.  Life is an experience that can’t be measured by the net worth.  (Mic drop).

Every day is a Bonus Day.

Much Love,

BONUS DAY #122

Helping my brother John hang some pictures in their new home reminds me how powerful and impressionable the things we hang on our walls are to us, through us, and in us.  More than just a statement of what we believe about what we believe in, what we hang on the walls of our homes speak words into our lives.  Thomas Kincaide, the “painter of light” used to talk about how important it was to have works of art on the walls of your home that help give your children direction in their lives.  He emphasized how the importance of thinking through what you put on your walls.  Look around your home and study what is on your walls.  What is it saying?  What is it saying into your life?

BONUS DAY #121

I don’t know if it because I am living “bonus days” or what, but I sure have enjoyed getting to a professional baseball game on a pretty regular basis this summer.  It doesn’t matter if it is the Chicago Cubs–3 hours from the house; the Chicago White Sox–2 hours from the house; or even the Cincinnati Reds (2 hours from our son’s house)–all of them are a blast.  Today it rained until game time.  It is always interesting waiting it out to see if the team is going to play or not.  On the positive side–I got seats 5 rows from the game for $40 a seat.  The negative side –will they actually play?  WELL, THEY DID PLAY AND IT WAS FUN.  Never miss an opportunity.  Get up and get going….

Every day is a Bonus Day.

BONUS DAY #120

We attended a five night event at our home Church last week.  Each night had a different speaker with a different speaking style.  I could over hear people discuss which one was their favorite of the week, but the truth is–they were all great!  Each brought the Bible as the Word of God into our lives.  It is interesting how that idea of the Bible being God’s Word to our lives is diminishing.  Modern ideology is crowding it out.  Surprising and shocking (at the the same time).  At least for those five speakers–and that Church–the Bible is still the center.  Bravo.  Very Proud….
