BONUS DAY #166

Travel day to Israel is always packed with a series of unknowns–plane schedules, weather issues, seating assignments, connections, security, comfort–always plenty of potential stress, but most importantly travel day is a means to an end, not an end in itself.  We are headed to the Holy Land and that is awesome!

Every day is a Bonus Day!

Much Love,

BONUS DAY #165

Today we head toward Chicago for another Holy Land adventure.  We are always excited to be able to take people to Israel and share the spiritual pilgrimage with them.  It is a calling for Marceil and me, but it is also a calling for people to go.  Every Christian should go to the Holy Land at least once in their life.

BONUS DAY #164

Listing our house for sale means we are in search of the next home.  Today we looked at 6, yesterday 3, and Friday 3 others.  Twelve different homes narrowed down through the realty sites on the internet, and we haven’t found the place for us.  It makes me wonder how much “at home” we are ever supposed to feel?  I know we like to “nest”–but are we ever really “home?”  I kind of hope not!

BONUS DAY #163

I got to preach today at Crossroads Church.  It was awesome challenging people to shift their fear into faith in all three services.  I also realized as much as I enjoy the spiritual level, it is the physical level of preaching the services that is the issue.  It was the physical issue(s) why I had to transition out 5 years ago.  My doctors all said if I gave up the week to week preaching my lung issues would moderate, and it has moderated, but I miss it.  Miss it or not, bonus days mean you enjoy each day to its fullest.  I very much did so today.

Every day is a Bonus Day.

BONUS DAY #162

Oops….we missed our exit….on a four lane with a huge concrete middle (no u-turn)….so on to “Google Maps” to see what the adventure would be to get home.  We zigged and zagged and ended up seeing a few spots in our county we have seen and a few (like an old home) we haven’t seen in a while.  All the while a cousin called to talk, while we were navigating our way home.  Nothing in life is it seems–there is an eternal reason for everything.  God organizes Himself into every second of our earthly chaos.  We need to be careful when we blame or criticize or even complain.  God is working all through the circumstances and situations we face.

Every day is a Bonus Day.

Bonus Day #161

I had those special few minutes today to speak into a grandchild the Word of God.  He spoke of some nervousness about learning in school and keeping up.  I shared with him my own struggle the first five grades of elementary school, but how my mother prayed over me to open up my mind and brain to learn and something miraculous happened.  Another reminder that nothing is ever wasted.  God is in control–and doesn’t make mistakes.

Bonus Day #161

My long time friend and TCRG Board Member, Doug Miller, sent out an email with something God laid upon his heart about faith.  Using Hebrews 11–He developed a few concepts that are helpful.  I copied his email and will paste it here:

I read Hebrews 11,  I have read it several times before, but this time the Holy Spirit gave my spirit a supercharged dose of faith.  It really spoke to me about three different things that I felt compelled to share;

  1.  Hebrews 11:1(NIV) Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.  This is what the ancients were commended for. This makes me think we have a “can do” God.  That he can do anything.  but greater yet, we have a “will do” God.  That he will do anything within his will.  The greatest of all is we have a “has done” God.  When we come to God in his will, it is done.  The greatest and most powerful faith comes when we believe not just that God can do, or will do something, but that God has done something.

  1. Hebrews 11:1(NIV) “certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:2(NIV) By faith we understand that the universe was formed  at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.  God is in control. He has a plan.  He is sovereign. Most of what God does, He does from things that can not be seen by our carnal human body.  Man through science is constantly trying to catch up with the things God has done from the things we can not see.  There is so much going on in the spiritual realm that influences us, but yet we still can not see it through our carnal human body.  A Minuit part of this is revealed to us when we have enough faith to allow the Holy Spirit to communicate with our spirit to gain understanding of the prophecies given in the Bible.

  1. Hebrews 11:2-39 I’ll let you read this in your Bible.  Hebrews 11-40(NIV) God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. God works on his time line, not ours.  God doesn’t always reveal his promises in our time line or even in our life time.  But He does keep them.  He is a “has done” God.  Some times the next generation receives the promise, but it is still fulfilled.  It is through God working on his time line that allows us to choose to either strengthen or weaken our faith.  If things came too quickly we would be void of the option to increase or decrease our faith minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year, decade by decade, or even a lifetime.

God has something better for us than what we can think of.  When we keep our faith, working together with God, his plan is fulfilled.

Have a blessed day,

Doug

(Thanks, Doug, for being obedient)!

BONUS DAY #160

I had a real God moment today when a neighbor lady spoke some Scriptures into me just before moderating a meeting.  It choked me up for a few moments and met a lot to me.  (It is a good thing she did, the next person who talked to me challenged my christian character).  The timing was interesting–in that–I was sure glad I saw her before him! Ha!  Having someone speak the Word of God in you, over you, and to you sure makes a bonus day even more special!

BONUS DAY #159

I read an email today at 7:45 AM that really threw me for a loop.  It involved a situation in our Homeowner’s Association that has gotten out of hand.  There is division among the Homeowner’s and the Board of Directors and even the management of the Association.  I got pulled into the middle of it all through signing a petition that addressed some concerns we were having with a new development across the street.  It is complex but comes down to a lack of communication and the disregard for the voice and opinion of the ordinary (common) property owner.  It made me realize it is a challenge to enjoy a day as a bonus day when there is conflict and tension present.  Every day is still a Bonus Day, so I am going to do what is necessary to remove myself from this level of conflict–after an important meeting tomorrow.

Every day is a Bonus Day!

BONUS DAY #158

An observation I have made (and am making) through road trips in the US and through international travel is there a significant indication that a person’s ability to obey and comply with traffic signs, signals, and lights is a reflection of how “law abiding” and (SAFE) a community, state or country is going to be.  If there is a substantial disregard for traffic laws, the community will generally be more unsafe than a community where people comply (and respect) the laws.  Where laws are disregarded in the small ways, there will be a general attitude of lawlessness in bigger ways.

If everyone disregarded traffic laws, chaos and confusion would rage.  The roads would become dangerous to navigate.

It may seem like a small thing, but we make the decision to respect the laws or not every time we get in our cars to drive.

Let’s be intentional and respectful out there.
