BONUS DAY #157

The hardest thing about finding God’s will for something or someone is the patience required to “wait.”   God always reveals Himself.  God always reveals His direction–BUT–most of the time–it takes time.  The time spent in waiting is intended to develop our patience;  maturing our attitude;  creating a sense of surrender; and guiding our character.  The best thing that can happen to us in life is “the wait.”  Inside the “wait” is a depth of yielding and a height of surrender nothing else in life can bring.

BONUS DAY #156

I was thinking today of our Jordan River baptisms.  The honor of baptizing someone in the Jordan River made me reminisce of the people who we have baptized there over the years, then, just like that, I was brought to the sights, sounds, and smells, of Yardinet (the baptism site we use on our Tours).  The water is muddy, and things float down the current, but it is the Jordan River.  Jesus was baptized there.  It is a very special place.  If you are reading this, I hope I have the opportunity to baptize you in the Jordan River during one of my future bonus days.

BONUS DAY #155

2 Timothy 3: 1 says that it will be “perilous” at the End of Times and then provides a list of different behaviors we will see like “men will be lovers of themselves…”  The original word for “Perilous” is “Chalepos” which means “reducing of strength.”  It is interesting how different the original language brings out the concepts in the Bible than our modern day vernacular.  As a matter of fact, we no longer even have a vernacular–we are reduced to emoji’s.  The world of “emoji’s” has reduced us to communicating in doodles and not even words.  Because we have lost our sense of expressing thoughts in complete ways, we have lost our way regarding the Bible.  For instance, back to 2 Timothy 3:1–“reducing our strength” is what the list of behaviors does to/in our lives, however, our modern vernacular reduces us to a condemnation/judgement on others.  We need to spend more time in study and reflection–especially of the Word of God.

BONUS DAY #154

We had a delightful time of fellowship and dinner with some folks who have come with us this year to the Holy Land this year.  The heart warming part is these folks are interested in bringing others to the Holy Land as well.  It is affirming to know that God is speaking to others the way He spoke to us about bringing people to the Holy Land.  The time together made me realize that there is no “putting it off” when God is speaking to us about doing something.  When God nudges us it is important to not delay.  What is God nudging you to do?

BONUS DAY #153

Hebrews Chapter 12 tells us that we are to endure difficult times as “discipline” and that “disciplines ONLY THOSE He loves.”  Just as a loving parent disciplines their children, God disciplines us through difficulties, painful situations, relationship issues, and just about anything/everything else under the sun.  God dearly loves us and wants to develop us.  The best way to develop us is through difficulties, not through ease.  When things are easy we don’t learn a thing.  Even on these bonus days, it is important for me to say to God–“Bring it on!”

BONUS DAY #152

I know I shouldn’t be surprised by people’s reaction to stuff but I was today.  A group of people who are particularly known for their stance of social justice, peace (and pacifism) comprise the Board of Directors of a local (entity)  (The vagueness is intentional).  They are receiving some “push back” from some of the constituents they are supposed to represent.  Admittedly, I am one of those pushing back–but believe that the voice of ordinary people need to be represented and heard on a few issues.  The immediate response from this Board of Directors was offense, defensive, attacked, and hurt.  In trying to mediate the situation the offense is getting worse, not better.  It reminds me that whatever it is you stand for in your ideology, philosophy, or even theology, is only true for you when tested….not just when talked about.  What we really believe is what others see when you are under attack–not during calm times.

BONUS DAY #151

Marceil’s key FOB of the Suburban showed “low battery remote” on the dashboard, so I took it to a dealer.  It is the part’s department who handles the issue apparently.  The parts guy was busy.  The phone was ringing, three people were waiting, and two techs were talking to him inside his parts space.  He stopped what he was doing and offered to put the battery in the key FOB for me.  I was impressed by the guys’ attitude and spirit in the face of all the busyness of his job.  It reminds me that “what you do” (in attitude and spirit) speak so much more than “what you say.”  I want to be more like that parts guy.

BONUS DAY #150

I was reminded today of how important it is for us to keep “ego” in check.  Pride is a tool of the devil and vanity is an instrument of Satan’s work.  On the other hand, humility is God’s instrument–forgiveness, love, and acceptance are the wings that humility floats upon in our lives especially as we relate to others.  I can’t say it loud enough, or spell it out clear enough–we need to keep our ego’s in check.  ALL THE TIME….EVERY TIME.

“Thank you Lord for the opportunity to be reminded of humility, kindness, and love.”

BONUS DAY #149

It struck me today how much I love the Word of God.  It is such a great help in life.  It is God’s word to us.  I was thinking about Biblical prophecy and how God’s track record is perfect.  Twenty three prophecies in the Old Testament fulfilled in the New Testament.  Since God’s track record is 100% I believe we can be assured of God’s presence and fulfilled in Biblical prophecy concerning the End of Times!

23 prophecies in the Old Testament fulfilled in the New Testament:

  1.  Born of a virgin
  2. Born in Bethlehem
  3. Escape to Egypt as a baby
  4. Raised in Nazareth
  5. Spent times as an adult in Capernaum
  6. Healings
  7. Miracles
  8. Bring a “good report”
  9. Bring eternal gift
  10. The people wouldn’t understand
  11. The people would seem deaf
  12. So He would speak in parables to help them understand
  13. He would be “dogged” by religious leaders
  14. His enemies would number more than the hairs of His head
  15. He would be betrayed by his own friend
  16. For 30 pieces of silver
  17. The Palm Sunday route described
  18. His garments would be gambled away
  19. He would be given vinegar to drink
  20. He would be crucified between two criminals
  21. His bones would not be broken
  22. They would pierce His side
  23. He would rise from the dead

BONUS DAY #148

Things are “heating up on the home front”….and I haven’t mentioned it much.  They are building a housing project across the street from our home in Goshen, Indiana.  It was presented initially as “high end apartments” ended up building apartments stacked on top of each other.  Here is the comparable:  Our housing area has 187 units placed in 28 acres.  The housing project across the street is 188 units placed in 14 acres.  There is no way to know all the implications of drainage, traffic, safety health, but they have been building the buildings non-stop for the last 16 months.  The neighbors are divided on how to handle it.  A group of them took matters into their own hands and developed a petition to address the issues that haven’t been communicated.  I looked it over and signed the petition.  We need the drainage issue addressed and communicated.  We need a fence between their 14 acres and our 28 acres.  Good fences make GREAT NEIGHBORS!  We need to know about the lighting of these two and three story buildings towering over our homes.  Friction between people quickly developed because those on the Home Owner’s Association Board were offended certain home owners took matters into their own hands.  The City of Goshen officials contend they are working through the “Home Owner’s Association Board” to communicate to the homeowners, but what they are missing is–a Homeowner’s Association Board is NOT a governmental agency–they regulate the number of flowers you can plant, NOT the voice of the people.  THEN THE PRESS CAME CALLING!!! (BOO-YAH).  I told the reporter–“Thanks for checking on us.  The proper role of the press in our culture is to give the ordinary people a voice–especially when no one will listen.”  Not sure I should be getting this worked up, being a cardiac patient and all….Ha!
