BONUS DAY #229

Suddenly we were having people over to the house and had to “attack” the lower level getting the pictures up.  I also needed to grass seed an area that was bare and had to be done before the rain started later in the day.  Two self-imposed deadlines that needed to be accomplished.  Never once did I analyze the deadlines were self-imposed, but that “they needed to be done.”  I wonder how much self imposed stress we put on ourselves that we think is stress imposed on us?

BONUS DAY #228

Buying a new hedge trimmer today, I had them paid for and the guy was having a hard time keeping it going while showing me how to use it.  He decided to send it to the service department.  They have been gone a week.  He called today to say they were ready to be picked up.  Weird–buying something and not being able to take it home.  The store is small and local (we were trying to buy local), and their inventory was low, hence, why they didn’t have another to give me.  A younger version of myself might have demanded my money back, but this “Bonus Day” version is intent on seeing how God might want to use such a weird turn of events.

BONUS DAY #227

Tonight was “Trick or Treating” for the kids.  Fortunately we got pictures of all our grandchildren in costume.  Unfortunately we weren’t able to be around or with any of our grandchildren when they went Trick or Treating.  When situations occur you have no control over, you have to make the best of your situation.  I was proud of Marceil getting the big sized candy bars and candy to give out to the kids who came to our home.  She also convinced me to put on the dinosaur costume Fiona and McNeely gave to me for my birthday.  She gave out candy and I played “Barney” for the neighbors.  Always do your best and deal with how things are “dealt.”

BONUS DAY #226

I had a long talk with someone who needs to find a new job in their field.  Their current situation has gone through a series of challenges that was not their fault, but the result reflects on them.  He knows he needs to move on, but move on carefully.  Plus–age is a factor.  Younger conflicts with maturity and wisdom in our culture today.  We really do need each other AND we really do need to HELP EACH OTHER, however and where ever we can help.

BONUS DAY #225

I saw someone out of context of how I knew them in the role they usually serve.  Interesting how we have a tendency to “box people in.”  “Put them in a box”–is usually how we process each other.  It is so important for us to look past the role and see the person.  People are important.  People are valuable.  People need to know they are valued for who they are–not valued by what they do–or what they do for us (for me).

BONUS DAY #224

My brother John lives in the area and took the time today to help with some electrical issues in my exercise area.  We found a couple of outlets that were live but didn’t have plugs in.  It is interesting how important electricity is, but how it is even more important that it needs to be handled with care and respect.  The same goes for the relationships we have in our lives:  CARE AND RESPECT.

BONUS DAY #223

It was road trip day back home, but with out having to start out quite so early.  We are finding a great appreciation for our new home–even though the leaves are turning, falling, and burying the lawn!  Ha!  It is important on any trip to enjoy EVERY MOMENT of the trip.  Enjoy your loved ones.  Enjoy the freedom to travel.  Enjoy good conversation.  Enjoy the landscape.  Enjoy your day.

BONUS DAY #222

We visited a specialty hat store today.  The lady was very helpful.  She cleaned and sized my hat.  She also sold me a new hat.  The reason I like specialty stores is you learn things about your item that is either not known or cared about otherwise.  “Specialty Store” is more like “specialized.”  “Specializing” doesn’t exist much anymore.  People are unwilling to spend the money or time to appreciate specialties.  (And that’s too bad).

BONUS DAY #221

Interesting meetings in Wichita, Kansas today.  It was the first time I have ever seen a multi-generational Church with a multi-generational vision.  A 29 year old business man showed us how the Church had been buying up properties around their downtown Church to eventually build a landmark Worship Center.  It was remarkable to hear people who had a shared vision.

BONUS DAY #220

It is a road trip day.  Twelve hours to the destination and needing to be there by a 7 PM dinner meeting–we started out pretty early.  It is the little things that really help.  The fact that our new home is 45 minutes closer to Chicago, and with easy access on to the Interstate, it helped a little.  It reminds me how important it is to celebrate and be thankful for the little things.  Thankfulness for the little things will make us more aware of the “other things”–the “bigger things” and the things that will soon be bigger things.  Always rejoice.

Every day is a Bonus Day!
