BONUS DAY #219

Needing to do a couple of “handyman” tasks that I don’t usually do, or have never done, I watched some YouTube videos of instruction.  Interestingly, of four videos, they each contradicted the other in significant ways.  Each of the results seemed to work–at least by what I could tell in the video.  It occurred to me that what I was missing was not the “know-how” but the confidence in doing the task–which each of the people in the video had plenty of (confidence that is….).

BONUS DAY #218

“It is what it is…” is more than a trite little phrase, it is an important way to process most of the situations we face in our relationships.  The Post Office Clerk at our new Post Office can be rather short tempered, and curt in her approach to questions asked.  We never know what someone else is facing in their life.  We need a way to accept the person, accept the process, accept the situation–all the while realizing that God is working.

Bonus Day #217

It is fun when all your favorite college football teams win in one evening.  I don’t remember that happening very often.  When it did, about 11:30 PM last night, I had that very typical (and very un-spiritual) thought of, what did I do wrong?  Or right? Or what did I do?  Then again….I didn’t do anything–which is the point–I watched the games, rooting for my favorites but didn’t nothing to contribute toward them winning or losing.  The outcome of a football game is not about me.  It is interesting how often we make EVERYTHING about me…..

BONUS DAY #216

We got an invite to go with the some of our grandchildren to the Indianapolis Zoo for their “Zoo Boo”–an annual event they do in a huge way.  It is so fun to enjoy time with family on a Bonus Day.  Never take anything or anyone for granted!  Ever.

BONUS DAY #215

My dad used to work on Friday nights when I was a kid.  He worked a couple of part time jobs to help ends meet.  Friday night and Tuesday night was always nights dad was gone working.  When you are raised with Friday nights being Dad’s work night, you never really get the special occasion of Friday nights (like in our culture today).  It is interesting how upbringing affects how we view anything/everything.

BONUS DAY #214

The cable guy showed up at his appointed time and “presto” we have cable and internet!  It is awesome to feel like the new place is back to normal.  Just like loosing cable a day early, getting it back is the same reminder about the day and age we are living.  We are lost without our technology–both good and great, but also sad in some ways.  Don’t worry, I am not going to be too preachy about it today, I am thankful for it.

BONUS DAY #213

Waking up in a new house is a little freakish at 59 years old.  The older you get, the more you get set and stuck in your old ways.  Waking up in a new home reminds me how important it is for us to stay flexible and mobile.  It is a good thing to wake up in a new place.  Stay current and up to date.

BONUS DAY #212

Today was moving day!  Three trucks and nine movers showed up at 8 AM.  We closed on the new house at 11 AM, but the people weren’t finished moving out yet.  They were still moving out while we were moving in.  The new home was not very clean, but we are still happy to have more space to live and work.  We are very appreciative of God’s provision and favor.  The list of 30 things that needed to be fixed before we moved in still have a few things left to do, but things will work out.  Be appreciative and look at the positive things–if you do, you will experience the moments of your life to their fullest.

BONUS DAY #211

The cable company turned off my service a day too early.  Interesting how the day goes with out your regular cadence and routine.  (Especially difficult if you are home and not traveling)…..flexibility in all things is essential.  What I experienced reminds me how dependent we become (I have become) on the modern conveniences.  We need to get back to the basics once in a while.

BONUS DAY #210

I was reminded in a small way today how important it is to see things through someone else’s eyes.  “Do unto others the way you would have do unto you.”  Jesus teaching referred to as the “Golden Rule.”  We never know what someone else is going through.  Take it easy on people.  Take it easy on yourself.

Every day is a Bonus Day.
