BONUS DAY #283

I was very impressed by the Rose Parade.  Initially a creation of the local community of Pasadena, California, they have gained international acclaim.  Born and raised in the Midwestern part of the United States, I (we) have never had an opportunity to go and attend–watching the Rose Parade up close and personal.  It was an amazing experience.  We were even close enough to get the fire of the one float on my cell phone camera.  Hundreds of thousands of people everywhere, but still a create experience.

BONUS DAY #282

Flying on New Year’s Eve was relatively painless.  Headed to Pasadena, thanks to some tickets from a College Classmate who serves on the Rose Parade Committee.  We had to say goodbye to Mitch and the family in downtown Chicago as they were flying out several hours after us.  Goodbyes….you want them as perfect as possible–but if it is a good visit is it always hard.  “Hellos” are better than “Goodbyes”–but you don’t get one without the other.  Hellos and Goodbyes are an essential part of life.  You might not be able to enjoy each and every one of them, but we need to accept them–and then embrace them.

BONUS DAY #281

Giving two of our grandchildren a train ride to Chicago was the our big adventure today.  PLUS, walking it from the train station to the Hotel with our luggage.  Grandma held onto the kids and Grandpa held onto the luggage.  Adventure.  Adventure(s).  Take on as many as you can!

BONUS DAY #280

“Cast all your cares upon me, because my yoke is easy and my burden is light,” Jesus said and repeated (often).  In one simple statement “Cast your cares upon me” Jesus lets us know how to release our stress.  (Stress being that one issue that can be physically, emotionally, and/or spiritually devastating).  Jesus remedy for ANY level of stress you are carrying today–CAST IT ON HIM–don’t carry it yourself.

BONUS DAY #279

Helping someone learn to play ping-pong is entirely dependent (in my own opinion) upon the person who is learning.  You have to simply STICK WITH IT until you feel and experience the “touch” of it.  A little like balancing yourself on a bike and little like learning how to floss underneath a bridge (yes…the one in your mouth–dental work).  You think at times you will never get it and then-BAM–you start doing much better.  BUT, you only do better if you STICK WITH IT.  “Sticking with it” is so try in/of just about everything.

BONUS DAY #278

Picked up Mitch’s family from Midway Airport in Chicago.  First stop–Albanese Candy Factory–the Gummi Bear maker.  Nothing like having two kids in a “Candy Shop”–unless you add with it–“get whatever you want.”  I love it.  It’s not healthy–but it is very fun!  The extra bonus on this trip to Albanese (can you tell it wasn’t Grandma and Grandpa’s first time), was the Christmas edition of the Albanese candy was half price.  My candy days are over–(as per my Cardiologist)–but the smell of candy is still enjoyable.

BONUS DAY #277

Today we went to the Joffrey Ballet’s version of the Nutcracker.  I don’t think I have ever been to a Ballet personally, and it started slow (strictly my own opinion), however the second half of it totally redeemed itself.  The promotional information did a pretty good job of “selling it”–like “an annual family tradition” kind of thing.  (It made an out of towner like ourselves feel like finding out what the big deal is/was).  I’m not sure I would go every year if I lived in a big city–BUT MAYBE….(Ha!)

Every day is a Bonus Day!

BONUS DAY #276

The minute we woke up this morning (on Christmas Day) we both said, “Our first bonus Christmas…”  We are headed to Chicago to spend a couple of days, mostly because Mitch and family are flying in, but some because it is a mild day weather wise for the Midwest, and we wanted to take in the Christmas lights of Chicago.  My Christmas Day challenge to everyone is to realize every day is a gift from God.

Every day is a Bonus Day!

Much Love,
